The materials we make here in Villers-Saint-Paul are central to the development of innovative and efficient solutions, like Capstone™ repellents and surfactants which are critical to people’s everyday life and safety in Europe. These products are used in applications as diverse as architectural coating, fire safety products, textile, leather or windshields.

Chemours operates the Villers-Saint-Paul (Oise) site, a 40-hectare industrial complex created in 1917. Today, Chemours employs 60 people on the site.

Through a $200 million investment announced in January 2023, aimed at increasing capacity and advance technology for its industry-leading Nafion™ ion exchange materials, Chemours is supporting market demand for clean hydrogen generation using water electrolyzers, energy storage in flow batteries, and hydrogen conversion to power fuel cell vehicles. We contribute to European and broader global efforts to enable the clean energy transition from our site in France.

The $200 million investment in Villers-Saint-Paul will generate 80 full-time jobs during the construction phase and lead to the creation of 80 additional positions over the long term.

Contributing to the Energy Transition

We share France’s and Europe’s vision for a net zero future. Europe’s next chapter must be carbon neutral. And for that it needs a strong domestic industry of carbon neutral technologies. That is why in 2023 we announced a $200 million investment here at Villers-Saint-Paul to increase production capacity for our industry-leading, hydrogen energy-enabling Nafion™ ion exchange materials. We have the ambition and the technology to help Europe reach and surpass its domestically produced hydrogen goal.

Both France and the Europe attach a key role to green hydrogen in achieving the EU Green Deal's objectives and reducing dependence on fossil fuel to reach net-zero in the EU by 2050. To be able to achieve the climate targets set in the Paris Agreement, France’s national strategy for the development of low-carbon hydrogen and the EU Hydrogen Strategy envisage a drastic expansion of hydrogen production and infrastructure, which would not be possible without the production of Nafion™. Chemours’ Nafion technology is an innovative membrane material that enables green hydrogen energy production, energy storage in flow batteries, and hydrogen conversion to power fuel-cell vehicles through water electrolysis.
