Chemours is the only U.S. manufacturer of PFA, a critical resin used in manufacturing the semiconductors that power our phones, computers, and other electronic systems. Without PFA, domestic semiconductor manufacturing would not be possible.

The fluoropolymer solutions we produce at Washington Works are also critical to increasing efficiency and durability in lithium-ion batteries, which power electric cars and other modes of transportation.

Investing in the Community and Future STEM Workforce

Annually, Chemours’ Washington Works site awards scholarships to local students pursuing STEM fields in four- or two-year programs. Chemours Washington Works plans to invest nearly $1.1M in scholarships through 2030. The scholarships are part of Chemours’ Future of Chemistry Scholarship program—a initiative to deliver scholarships to talented, high-potential students who live in communities where the company operates.

Chemours and Local Museum Bring Science Saturdays to Community

In late 2023, we re-launched Science Saturday’s part of our ten-year partnership with Discovery World (DW) Museum. The quarterly program is hosted at the Parkersburg-based Museum and aimed at 3rd through 6th graders. Chemours chemist and museum board member Leo Lech performed fun science demonstrations and brought hand-on STEM learning to life!

Sweet Street Birthday Celebration

On September 9, 2023, we hosted the Sweet Street Birthday Celebration to commemorate the 100th anniversary of United Way of the Greater Mid-Ohio Valley and the 75th anniversary of the Chemours Washington Works site, their long-standing community partnership, and commitment to Parkersburg and the Greater Mid-Ohio Valley. Chemours volunteers hosted two "Fun with Science" demonstrations for families, with kids learning all about STEM from the Chemours team.

Chemours Discovery World on Market check for $350,000

Little learners. Big dreams.

We are proud to announce a $350,000 multi-year STEM education grant for the newly opened Discovery World on Market children’s museum in Parkersburg. This will help develop the next generation of learners, thinkers and creators through fun, hands-on STEM learning. Our investment will also provide admission passes for underserved children and their families to experience the museum, plus fund Science Saturdays with Chemours volunteers.

For over 20 years, our employees have supported schools in Wood County, working to foster a love of STEM with students of all ages through programs like “Fun with Science.”

The U.S. Office of the Secretary of Defense recognized Chemours in West Virginia as a supportive place to work for veterans. We’re proud to support veterans at our sites. The company has many programs geared towards the recruitment, employment, and retention of veterans, including a special bonus incentive referral. Nature Trail Wildlife Habitat Council Certified Gold

The site’s nature trails received Gold Conservation Certification® in 2021 from the Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) for ~100 acres with 2+ miles of nature trails for public and educational uses. This is the highest achievable certification from WHC. The Washington Works integrated approach encompasses the creation and maintenance of a variety of wildlife habitats on the manufacturing site and land adjacent to the site. The program serves a wide variety of flora and fauna, 2.72 miles of networked nature trails, and learning programs geared to all ages.

Site Receives Garden Award for Milkweed Project

For several years, our employees have been growing milkweed to support monarch butterfly habitats at the site’s nature trail. Such work is crucial to the survival of monarchs. In 2024, their dedication was recognized by the West Virginia Garden Club, Inc.'s Shirey Conservation and Preservation of Butterflies Award. The team set aside 22 acres for milkweed growth, and to date has air dispersed more than 40,000 seeds, transplanted more than 200 plants, and planted more than 400 sprouts which were grown in coordination with Washington State College of Ohio and Lubeck Acres Garden Club.
