Our Work in the Community

Belle Plant Invests in West Virginia Education and Manufacturing Initiative

In early 2024, the plant awarded nearly $99,000 to Explore the New Manufacturing as part of the company’s commitment to increase access to STEM skills. The investment will directly benefit middle and high school students in Explore’s Kanawha Valley and Mid-Ohio Valley hubs participating in educational programs designed to support STEM, technical careers, and development opportunities to fuel a future workforce.

Reinvigorating Its Community Advisory Panel

In 2024, the Belle site restarted its community advisory panel (CAP). CAPs are a critical part of all Chemours manufacturing location efforts to engage with their local community, foster transparent discussion, and build a trusting relationship. CAPs provide a forum for education about Chemours processes, businesses, and products as well as an opportunity for the community to ask questions and offer insight into the needs and expectations of the local area. CAP members regularly share information in meetings with others in the community and offer additional feedback to site leadership.

Supporting the Next Generation in the Kanawha Valley

Chemours sponsored the Kanawha Valley section of American Chemical Society’s (ACS) U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO) at West Virginia State University. The annual gathering recognized graduating seniors for accomplishments in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), their teachers for inspiring and encouraging a lifelong love of STEM learning, and one undergraduate student who volunteered to advance the respective projects and the field of chemistry. For 2024, scholarships and awards given totaled over $12,000.

We are committed to safety onsite and in our communities. Whether it be natural disaster or the COVID-19 pandemic, our team continues to support our communities’ well-being.

Investing in local STEM education

The team is passionate about investing in our future STEM superstars at the Kanawha County School District and other local groups near the plant.

Partnership with the American Forest Foundation

Chemours provided a $260,000 grant to help fund the expansion of the Family Forest Carbon Program (FFCP) into West Virginia. Chemours funding will enable incentives to enroll 6,500 acres of family-owned forest land to implement management practices to grow the economic and environmental value of their forested properties over time.

In 2020, the U.S. Air National Guard a site Maintenance Specialist into active duty, and Belle site leadership backed that employee backed every step of the way. Because of their unequivocal support, the U.S. Office of the Secretary of Defense recognized the Plant and Unit Managers as Patriotic Employer in 2024 for "supporting employee participation in America's National Guard and Reserve Force."
