Gerardo brings more than 20 years of experience across sales, marketing, strategy, product management, and finance. His varied experiences across the company helped shape his leadership style and provides a unique perspective. He is also passionate about producing critical chemistries that are innovative, responsibly manufactured, and play an essential role in a more sustainable economy.

Q: What excites you about the Advanced Performance Materials business now and in the future?

A: What excites me most about the present and the future of the APM business is the criticality of our solutions and the important role our products play in so many emerging technologies that are enabling a better future for all. Our world is changing, technology is evolving faster than ever, and the secular growth trends are truly undeniable. Our fluoropolymers are essential building blocks to advanced electronics, the hydrogen economy, semiconductors, and electric vehicles. The opportunity to work with our customers and partners to make these technologies not only possible but widely available is incredibly exciting to me.

Q: What do you like most about working at Chemours?

A: Personally, I am so excited to work at Chemours because we are helping solve some of the world’s greatest challenges through our innovative solutions and Chemours has the best people to make this happen. I am convinced that we can help meet the world’s bold climate goals through the power of our chemistry.

Q: How are APM offerings enabling decarbonization?

A: Our chemistries are crucial for enabling decarbonization and helping to achieve the ambitious goals of the EU Green Deal. Our Nafion™ ion exchange membranes are essential for many hydrogen applications from enabling hydrogen fuel cells in the transportation to making more efficient energy storage to producing green hydrogen safely and efficiently through water electrolysis. This is imperative for the clean energy transition, which gains even more importance given the latest geopolitical and energy challenges.

Q: What’s one fact people may not know about you?

A: I began my career with the company over 20 years ago working in sales in my home country of Mexico. Over a decade later, I was the country leader, later a global director in the US, and now I am a business president. I’ve seen and experienced firsthand that Chemours invests in its internal talent. With the right mix of determination, innovation, and courage, any role is attainable. It’s been an exciting journey so far, but I am really looking forward to what lies ahead.

Biography

Gerardo Familiar was appointed President, Chemours Advanced Performance Materials (APM), effective April 1, 2023. He brings a depth of business knowledge and a deep understanding of Chemours fluorinated chemistries to his new role. Prior to being named President, APM, Gerardo served as General Manager of Chemours Hydrogen Venture. In that role he was responsible for development and implementation of the business strategy, growth plans, and organizational capabilities related to Chemours hydrogen portfolio and ambitions. Before that, he was the Senior Director of Global Strategy, Marketing and Regulatory Affairs for the Thermal Specialized Solutions (TSS) business at Chemours. He also served the company as Investor Relations Director, President, Chemours Mexico, and multiple sales and marketing roles. Mr. Familiar holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico, a Masters of Business Administration from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de Mexico-ITAM, and completed the Executive Development Program from Wharton. He formerly served as Executive Board Member of the National Chemical Industry Association (ANIQ), United Way Mexico, and the International Chamber of Commerce Mexico (ICC).
