A Commitment that Transcends Everything We Do

For our people, acting responsibly is second nature. It is embedded in every business process and function at Chemours—from managing biodiversity at our sites to nurturing a culture obsessed with safety to developing new opportunities for product applications. While we utilize tools such as environmental, social, governance (ESG) issue prioritization and a defined framework to manage our sustainability journey, the concept of  sustainability at Chemours is broad, inclusive and a defining attribute of our organization.

Born of our values, our guiding principles have helped shape our commitment to drive responsible chemistry. They have provided the foundation for developing our CRC goals and will inform our ongoing focused efforts to responsibly grow our company.

Assessing Issues and Keeping Stakeholders Informed

Through our ESG issue assessment, we track a range of issues crucial to our ongoing sustainability journey and make sure to keep stakeholders abreast of those that are most important to them. Our 2023 issue prioritization matrix illustrates the ESG issues that are the most important, or material, to our stakeholders and to Chemours.

Launching Our Ambitious CRC Goals

We began our sustainability journey in 2017 by looking at the future growth of our company through the lens of sustainability. That led us to launch our ambitious goals a year later. These goals define our actions as a company and require every one of us to help build a better future. They also call upon us to share our steps along the way toward achieving our CRC goals by 2030.

Linking to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

We designed our goals to track closely to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) to make certain that the steps we are taking are what the world most needs. Since we cannot tackle every UN SDG, we’ve focused on those where we can make the biggest difference: clean water and sanitation, responsible consumption and production, and climate action. We contribute to the remaining goals at varying levels.

Signing the United Nations Global Compact

We are a participant in the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and have been since 2018. We committed to communicate our progress toward implementing the 10 UNGC principles covering human rights, child and forced labor, the environment, and anti-corruption, and to act in support of broader UN goals.

Transparency through Reporting

Since transparency is central to our efforts, Chemours reports to the Global Reporting Initiatives (GRI) Standards framework, making sure to disclose the general and specific corporate responsibility activities most important to the company. We also report to the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) framework, which provides accounting and sustainability metrics that are standard in the chemical sector, and submit to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) to independently assess the effectiveness of our climate management approach.
